People with breast implants should still get breast cancer screenings as advised by their doctor. The advice will depend on what treatment you had, such as if you have had a mastectomy.
Your doctor may advise that you have routine mammograms. Mammograms use X-rays to get a clear image of your breast tissue. But implants can make it harder for the doctor to see the breast tissue.
Your health care team may also use other imaging tests. These can include:
- MRI
- Ultrasound
- Implant displacement views
In an implant displacement view, the technician pushes your implant back against the chest and pulls your breast tissue forward. This helps them get a better picture. This procedure may cause discomfort if you've developed any scar tissue.
